Summary
The X-T2 is produced with bigger sensor than the Alpha a6500: APS-C (23.6 x 15.6 mm) versus APS-C (23.5 x 15.6 mm). This is very significant difference between these models as big sensor allows the photographer to produce photos of the better quality. The Alpha a6500 offers more number of focus points in compare with the X-T2: 425 vs 325. More number of focus points means more convenience while attempting to focus on objects which are not centred.
The X-T2 display is better as it has more number of screen dots 1,040,000 in comparison to 921,600 dots of the Alpha a6500 screen. The higher dot count display is better for reviewing images on your camera. The Alpha a6500 is produced with a touch screen. The Fujifilm X-T2 offers better fastest shutter speed - 1/8000 second.
The Alpha a6500 is produced with built-in flash. The Alpha a6500 battery life is better in compare to the X-T2 battery life. According to CIPA standards the camera owner will be able to make 350 photos with the Alpha a6500 and only 340 with the X-T2. The Alpha a6500 weighs 453g that is 54g less in comparison with the weight of the Fujifilm X-T2.
The X-T2 and the Alpha a6500 have the same number of advantages though as the Fujifilm X-T2 has bigger sensor which is a very significant advantage then this model becomes the best buy.
